Christmas Bird Count for Kids

Round up your birding pals and help us count the birds! We will be hiking the trails of High Park to find the resident birds who are toughing it out this winter. The data we collect will be submitted through eBird to the Christmas Bird Count 4 Kids program and will help bird conservation efforts and contribute to Citizen Science.

Our indoor introduction will teach you about the winter birds we hope to find in High Park, some rare birds you should look for, and how to use binoculars. Then we head out onto the trails! Groups will be led by experienced birders to tally all of the birds we can find. We will return to the Nature Centre to compile our tally numbers and warm up with hot drinks and cookies.

CBC4Kids is a “Donate What You Can” at the door (recommended $2 – $5 / person) and an all ages family event.  Pre-registration is recommended.

Please bring binoculars and field guides, if you have them! We have a limited number to lend out.

 * The Christmas Bird Count is open to everyone, even if you don’t celebrate Christmas!  It is North America’s longest running Citizen Science bird project and started on Christmas Day, 1900. *

In partnership with Bird Studies Canada.
