Introduction to Bird Drawing
Please join us for an evening of drawing birds in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Participants will work directly from taxidermy specimens using methods similar to pioneering avian artist John James Audubon. Instructor Alan Li will demonstrate how to start a drawing, establish proportions and techniques that include line work and shading. Constructive feedback will help participants elevate their abilities and draw with increased confidence. All skill levels are welcome.
Please bring the following materials to class:
Graphite pencils: HB and 2B
9 x 12 inch Artist Quality Sketchbook
Alan Li is an artist with a focus on nature. He supports conservation efforts through the sale of his artwork and is active in volunteering. Alan believes that drawing can open people’s eyes to the planet’s wondrous diversity and show them that it matters.
Alan studied figure drawing, perspective and hand drawn animation at Sheridan College. After graduating, Alan spent 3 years travelling to primate sanctuaries to draw rescued chimpanzees and orangutans followed by 6 years of animating children’s television programs. He currently pursues his own art projects and keeps busy collaborating with grassroots environmental groups.
