NOTE: Pre-registration is required for all our events, hikes and workshops. We do this to ensure we don’t exceed our capacity for indoor events or the maximum limits for group sizes on High Park’s ecologically sensitive trails. Please register on our website before coming to High Park.

Birding 101 on October Big Day in High Park
Looking to get into birding? Join us for a beginner-friendly birding walk on October Big Day, a global day for birding and community science. We’ll start the afternoon with an introduction to using binoculars (limited pairs are available to borrow from the Nature Centre), the basics on how to identify a new-to-you species of bird, and how to find them ethically. Then, we’ll head out into High Park, practice our bird watching skills, and participate in community science by submitting our species checklist to eBird, a worldwide database of birders’ observations. October Big Day is a global opportunity to unite around our shared love of birds. During this annual event organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, birdwatchers from around the world come together to document as many bird species as possible in a 24-hour period. Last October, nearly 36,000 people from 191 countries submitted more than 83,000 checklists with eBird, demonstrating the power of birds to bring people together. Each year more and more participants join in this global celebration.
Wherever you are on 12 October, take a few minutes to join in this global celebration. Participate from anywhere—even from home! By taking part in October Big Day you’re also celebrating Global Bird Weekend and World Migratory Bird Day. Be a part of the global team and help set a new record for October birding.

This event will begin at the High Park Nature Centre’s Forest School building located at 375 Colborne Lodge Drive.
A number of changes were made to the travel network within High Park as part of the High Park Movement Strategy that might influence your decision to drive to High Park. In case you’re driving we strongly recommend you to park your car at the public parking lot near Grenadier Cafe.
We continue to recommend using the TTC or biking as the best way to get to High Park and the Nature Centre. The Nature Centre is situated just a 5-minute walk from the High Park Subway Station. In case you were biking, there are bike racks available in front of the Nature Centre.
Please note, High Park is closed to cars on the weekends. If your event is on a weekend, you will need to park outside the park and walk in, or take transit.

General Admission (Seniors, Adults, Children): $10
To help you have an enjoyable experience, please consider bringing the following items:
- A reusable water bottle (can be refilled at the Nature Centre)
- Dress in layers to help keep you warm or cool
- Closed-toe shoes
Hike routes through High Park might include some uneven terrain and mild slopes.
We welcome registered therapy or guide dogs to our events. However, we kindly ask that that family pets be left at home.
