NOTE: Pre-registration is required for all our events, hikes and workshops. We do this to ensure we don’t exceed our capacity for indoor events or the maximum limits for group sizes on High Park’s ecologically sensitive trails. Please register on our website before coming to High Park.

We cannot guarantee availability of walk-in spots. If an event is at capacity, please put yourself on our waitlist. We will notify waitlisted participants if we open up new spots or sessions for our events. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Christmas Bird Count for Kids – Session 1

Join us in High Park for this family- and children-friendly Christmas Bird Count, the longest-running community science project in North America. This popular winter holiday event offers young birders and their caregivers an easy and fun opportunity to contribute to stewardship by documenting winter bird populations in High Park!
 
We’ll start with a story time then head out on the trails on a 45-minute walk to spot as many birds as possible! After the walk, we’ll return to the Nature Centre for a light snack and make bird-themed crafts.
 
The Nature Centre has moved to a smaller location while our main building is being renovated to improve accessibility. In our smaller space, we can accommodate fewer people at the Christmas Bird Count for Kids than in years past. If you register for the Christmas Bird Count for Kids and are no longer able to attend, please reply the registration confirmation email to cancel so as many people as possible can get festive and birdwatch with us in High Park.

This event will begin at the High Park Nature Centre’s Cottage building located at 440 Parkside Drive.

The Cottage is located on the east side of High Park, onParkside Drive. We continue to recommend using the TTC or biking as the best way to get to High Park and the Nature Centre.

The Cottage is a 5-minute walk from Keele Subway Station. We recommend walking on the sidewalk on the east side of Parkside Drive and crossing at the cross walk Indian Valley Crescent.

When biking, there are bike racks available in front of the Nature Centre. Please remember to bring a bike lock. 

A number of changes were made to the travel network within High Park as part of the High Park Movement Strategy that might influence your decision to drive to High Park. In case you’re driving we strongly recommend you to park your car at the public parking lot near Grenadier Cafe.

Please note, High Park is closed to cars on the weekends. If your event is on a weekend, you will need to park outside the park and walk in, or take transit.

Hike routes through High Park might include some uneven terrain and mild slopes.

The High Park Nature Centre’s Cottage building is not yet an AODA-compliant facility. We try our best to accommodate accessibility needs on a case-by-case basis. Please reach out to us about any accessibility-related questions you might have.

Dogs and other pets are not permitted in our programs. However, certified service animals, such as registered therapy or guide dogs, are welcome.
