Family Nature Games Day In High Park

NOTE: Pre-registration is required for all our events, hikes and workshops. We do this to ensure we don’t exceed our capacity for indoor events or the maximum limits for group sizes on High Park’s ecologically sensitive trails. Please register on our website before coming to High Park.
We cannot guarantee availability of walk-in spots. If an event is at capacity, please put yourself on our waitlist. We will notify waitlisted participants if we open up new spots or sessions for our events. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Family Nature Games Day Details
Ready, set, explore! Stroll through High Park with Jen Ball (Sticks, Stones & Pinecones) to collect pinecones, pebbles, and twigs—nature’s game pieces. Then, head to OURSpace for an afternoon of playful competitions. From ancient classics to fresh twists, these games turn the outdoors into your very own board game café. Perfect for families with kids who love playing board games and spending time outdoors! All game pieces are natural, sustainable, and will be returned to where they were found by Nature Centre Staff to minimize our impact on the park.
This Nature Games Afternoon is intended for families with younger children. A Games Night for adults and older teens (16+) is scheduled for Thursday, May 29th.

Jen Ball
Jen Ball is a dedicated sustainability educator and researcher based in Toronto, Ontario. As a full-time professor at Humber College, she is the lead faculty of the Sustainability Stream, guiding students into green sector careers. Her work focuses on solutions for the climate crisis, and her preferred teaching setting is outdoors. She is the author of the outdoor education guidebook Sticks, Stones, and Pinecones (Mountaineers).

This event is not recommended for children under 5, as the games are geared towards children 5+ years old, and there will be small loose parts.
This event will begin at the High Park Nature Centre’s Forest School Building located at 375 Colborne Lodge Drive.
A number of changes were made to the travel network within High Park as part of the High Park Movement Strategy that might influence your decision to drive to High Park. In case you’re driving we strongly recommend you to park your car at the public parking lot near Grenadier Cafe.
We continue to recommend using the TTC or biking as the best way to get to High Park and the Nature Centre. The Nature Centre is situated just a 5-minute walk from the High Park Subway Station. In case you were biking, there are bike racks available in front of the Nature Centre.
Please note, High Park is closed to cars on the weekends. If your event is on a weekend, you will need to park outside the park and walk in, or take transit.

To help you have an enjoyable experience, please consider bringing the following items:
- A reusable water bottle (can be refilled at the Nature Centre)
- Dress in layers to help keep you warm or cool
- Closed-toe shoes
Hike routes through High Park might include some uneven terrain and mild slopes.
The High Park Nature Centre’s Forest School building is not yet an AODA-compliant facility. We try our best to accommodate accessibility needs on a case-by-case basis. Please reach out to us about any accessibility-related questions you might have.
Dogs and other pets are not permitted in our programs. However, certified service animals, such as registered therapy or guide dogs, are welcome.
