World Wildlife Day Nature Walk in High Park

Celebrate World Wildlife Day with a guided walk through High Park focused on this year’s theme of medicinal and aromatic plants. Discover how local species have been used for healing, food, and ceremony, and learn how they support ecological health in Toronto. Along the way, we’ll bridge traditional knowledge with modern science, explore global threats to medicinal plants, and discuss why their conservation matters. Come prepared to walk, observe nature up close, and join meaningful conversations about the vital role plants play in human well-being and biodiversity.

Price: $10
Ages: 16+ years
Meeting Location: High Park Forest School, 375 Colborne Lodge Drive

Theme: Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

World Wildlife Day, celebrated every year on March 3, honours the incredible diversity of wild animals and plants and their vital contributions to people and the planet. The 2026 theme, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage, and Livelihoods, shines a spotlight on species that are essential for human well-being and ecological balance. These plants form the backbone of traditional medicine, fuel modern healthcare innovations, and support global industries. Yet, more than 20% of medicinal and aromatic plants worldwide face the risk of extinction due to habitat loss, overharvesting, and climate change. Raising awareness and taking action is critical to ensure these invaluable plants can thrive in the wild.

A number of changes were made to the travel network within High Park as part of the High Park Movement Strategy that might influence your decision to drive to High Park. In case you’re driving we strongly recommend you to park your car at the public parking lot near Grenadier Cafe.

We continue to recommend using the TTC or biking as the best way to get to High Park and the Nature Centre. The Nature Centre is situated just a 5-minute walk from the High Park Subway Station.
