Winter Nature Clubs
December 10, 2019 by Kami Valkova

Registration for our winter clubs is now open! Our nature clubs meet regularly throughout each season (yes, even the winter!) to explore the natural wonders of High Park through trail hikes, sensory activities, games, and stewardship opportunities!

Some birds stick around in the winter, and we're always on the lookout!

Early Years Clubs

Our early years clubs are caregiver-accompanied: a chance to bond with the little ones you care for through nature, and meet other nature-loving families! Please note that the Nature Baby club hikes at an adult pace with babies in carriers, and all other early years clubs walk at a child pace. We still have space in the following early years clubs this winter:

Nature Baby (Thursday), 6-18 months
Waddlers (Saturday, Sunday), 18-36 months
Knee-High Naturalists (Tuesday, Sunday), 3-5 years
Fox & Kits (Tuesday), 18 months-5 years

After School and Weekend Drop-Off Clubs

The learning doesn’t have to stop after school or on weekends! Our after school and weekend drop-off clubs are accessible to participants who are already of school age. We still have space in the following drop-off clubs this winter:

Chipmunks (Saturday, Sunday), 4-6 years
Raccoons (Saturday, Sunday), 6-9 years
Coyotes (Saturday), 9-12 years

Some young naturalists using their imagination! What animals could they be?

At Home in High Park (Homeschooling Clubs)

Our “At Home in High Park” homeschooling clubs get participants to explore High Park's wilderness through inquiry and play! Caregivers may choose to drop off club participants, or join us. Participants also receive extended learning packages via email so the learning can continue at home. We still have space in the following homeschooling clubs this winter:

Kinglets (Tuesday), 4-6 years
Chickadees (Tuesday), 6-8 years

French Club

We even have a French program for your French or bilingual adventurers! Les écureuils (Saturday, 5-8 years), one of our drop-off weekend clubs, is for kids interested in learning about the wonders of nature in High Park, like to have fun, and either speak French at home or are enrolled in a French program at school.

Sometimes, if there is enough snow, we can take the snowshoes out on a hike!

Urban Naturalists

Our clubs aren't only open to kids; adults can join in too! The Urban Naturalists club (Saturday, ages 18+) takes adults on guided hikes on some of the lesser-explored trails in the park. You'll learn about the park's natural history, explore seasonally significant species, and be part of a community of nature enthusiasts!

Black-capped chickadees need to eat a lot to survive the winter - sometimes they even come to an open hand for an extra seed or two!
