Staff Spotlight: Julia Miller-Black
February 10, 2023 by Julia Miller-Black

Welcome to Staff Spotlight! Here we highlight the diverse stories of our valuable staff!

When I was younger, if you asked me what I wanted to do when I got older, I would've said that I wanted to work in a park. So, this job was a dream come true for me when I first joined the Nature Centre in 2019 as a part-time Nature Interpreter.

After a few years in Nova Scotia, I returned in the spring of 2022 as the Group Experience Coordinator and transitioned into my current role as Acting Programs Supervisor. Among other things, I help with supervising the wonderful Nature Centre staff team, puzzling together the schedule, and creating staff training opportunities. I am also an active Naturalist Teacher! I primarily teach Early Years, School Programs, and the Urban Naturalists adult hiking club!

I have an HBA from the University of Toronto in Environmental Studies, History, and English. I am an avid hiker, kayaker, and boulderer but I also enjoy staying in and reading a book or drawing (especially in my hammock). I love birding, looking for fungi, and watching the leaves change colour in the fall! I have quite the sweet-tooth because I was a chocolatier and chocolate-maker for five years before joining the Nature Centre!
