Registration for Fall Savannah Seniors in High Park opens Wednesday, August 26, at NOON

Savannah Seniors is an outdoor nature club for older adults to connect with nature and other nature lovers. We’ll get to know each other, learn about the three ecosystems of High Park, and the plants and animals that call it home with a special focus on the globally rare Black Oak Savannah — a legacy of Indigenous stewardship.

We’ll build community through activities such as sensory exploration, gathering naturalist skills, following what’s happening in nature, native plant gardening with supports and physical assistance, and walking together on fairly flat trails with limited incline. Participants are welcome to bring a care partner for support, mutual learning, and fun together at no additional charge.

Note: Currently, this program is not set up to accommodate wheelchair users.

Dates: Tuesdays – September 22, September 29, October 6, October 13, October 20, October 27
Time: 1-3PM
Price: Pay What You Can (FREE, $15, $30, $60)
Ages: 65 years and above

More Information and Policies

This program requires registration through a program called CampBrain. You’ll need to set up an account if you don’t have one, then register. If someone is registering on your behalf, please ask them to register in your name. Please email info@highparknaturecentre.com if you need help with registration.

Please call if you would like to chat about accessibility: (416) 392-1748

Currently, the Savannah Seniors program is not set up to accommodate wheelchair users.

The program aims to be friendly for folks with mobility challenges who use devices such as walking sticks and walkers and who are comfortable walking on unpaved trails that can be uneven at times. Instructors will be mindful of the weather and make adjustments as necessary.

This program includes gardening activities that are more adapted for the needs of older adults, such as seated gardening, staff assistance and flexible options.

The Nature Centre’s buildings are not fully AODA compliant. We have a ramps and a washrooms that could assist participants with mobility needs but they do not fully meet AODA requirements.

Please wear close-toed footwear (i.e. no sandals) and layers so you can adjust for your comfort.

Please call if you would like to chat about accessibility: (416) 392-1748

Participants are welcome to come with a care partner who may join free of charge. No registration is required but care partners will be required to sign a waiver.

Dogs and other pets are not permitted in our programs. However, certified service animals, such as registered therapy or guide dogs, are welcome.

Savannah Seniors will meet at the High Park Nature Centre’s Forest School building located at 375 Colborne Lodge Drive.

A number of changes were made to the travel network within High Park as part of the High Park Movement Strategy that might influence your decision to drive to High Park. In case you’re driving, we strongly recommend you to park your car at the public parking lot near Grenadier Cafe.

We continue to recommend using the TTC or biking as the best way to get to High Park and the Nature Centre. The Nature Centre is situated just a 5-minute walk from the High Park Subway Station. In case you are biking, there are bike racks available in front of the Nature Centre. The elevator at the High Park Subway Station is now operational!
