Materials Needed:
Any of the following upcycled materials:
- Empty toilet paper tubes
- Eggshells
- Egg cartons
A flat, shallow, upcycled or reusable tray (takeout container, plastic lid, etc.)
Scissors
Soil
Seeds
Instructions:
Empty toilet paper tubes:
- Cut the bottom of the toilet paper tube 3-4 times spaced evenly, with each cut about 4cm in length
- Fold cut sections in to close off the bottom of the tube
- Make sure they can stand up, place them on a flat (upcycled or reusable) tray such as a take out container or any shallow container that will not leak
- You may want to secure the tubes together with an elastic band so they don’t fall over
- Fill with soil and add seeds according to planting instructions
Eggshells:
- When breaking eggs for seed starters, make sure to break shells in half as neatly as possible (but they don’t have to be perfect!)
- Rinse out eggshell halves thoroughly
- Place eggshell halves in a section of egg carton to keep upright, then place egg carton in upcycled or reusable leak-proof tray
- Fill with soil and add seeds according to planting instructions
- Cut out a section of the carton based on how many seed starters you want to make
- Place carton section on flat, upcycled or reuseable, leak-proof tray
- Fill with soil and add seeds according to planting instructions
