Word of the Week: Spoor

Welcome to Word of the Week! Stay tuned for a new word each week to amp up your nature vocabulary!

The word of the week is spoor [SPOOR] (noun): the track, trail, scent, droppings and other marks left behind by an animal as it travels.

The snow-covered landscape of the cold Canadian winters make for a great time to easily spot animal and bird spoor. Naturalists love to spoor for local wildlife at High Park. Some common spoors you can find at High Park include that of squirrels and geese.

The image above shows some raccoon prints seen a couple of winters ago. Put on your nature detective hats, get outside and try tracking some awesome creatures in your own neighborhood!
