Yoga in the Park – Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: Please bring your own mat and water bottle to Yoga in the Park. During COVID-19 we are not lending out mats for use.

Q: Will we be outdoors the entire time?

A: All classes will take place outdoors. In the event of inclement weather (heavy rain, sustained winds above 35 km/h or gusts of 65 km/h and/or thunderstorms), the High Park Nature Centre will reschedule the yoga practice. We will notify participants by email no later than 6:00 AM on the day of class if we need to cancel due to inclement weather and reschedule for a future week.

Q: Are there washrooms we can use?

A: Yes. Although we will be outdoors throughout our yoga practice, we will set up our mats just south of the Nature Centre. If you need to use the washroom at any point before, during, or after practice, there will be a washroom accessible to you.

Q: What is the maximum group size for Yoga in the Park?

A: Yoga in the Park will be capped at 15 participants this fall. The total group size, including both participants and the instructor, will be 16.

Q: Will I need to pass a health check?

A: Yes. Please aim to arrive 5-10 minutes before class to allow time for this.

Q: When should I stay home?

To ensure the health and well-being of other participants, you will need to stay home if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Sore throat or trouble swallowing
  • Runny nose or red eyes
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Not feeling well, tired or sore muscles
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • If you have been in close contact with someone who is sick or has confirmed COVID-19 in the past 14 days
  • If you have returned from travel outside Canada in the past 14 days

Q: Will the instructor be doing hands-on adjustments.

A: No hands-on adjustments will be provided this season to respect physical distancing guidelines. Your instructor will maintain this distance from all students at all times, and students are expected to do the same.

Q: Will we be using props?

A: To reduce risks related to COVID-19, we will not be using props in our yoga practice this season. You will be offered non-prop modifications for each pose, and you will be encouraged to tune into your body’s wisdom to listen to what option makes the most sense for you. With that said, we understand that we are all in unique bodies, and props can help us modify a yoga practice to fit our bodies, rather than the other way around (and we’re all about that)! If you have props that you would like to bring with you from home, you are more than welcome to bring them with you.

Q: I normally practice indoors in my home or at a yoga studio – is an outdoor practice for me?

A: Practicing yoga outdoors is such a joy! If you’ve never tried it before, we invite you to give it a go. The grounding sensation of the Earth beneath you, breathing in the fresh forest air, and listening to birdsong are just a few of the amazing things about an outdoor yoga practice. We’ll end each practice in savasana with a short, guided meditation tuning into the nature that is all around us, calming our minds, and starting the day on a positive note!
