Edible & Medicinal Plants of Ontario with Stephan Lukacic in Toronto's High Park

Saturday, July 18, 2026, 1-4PM

Ages: 18+ years

NOTE: Pre-registration is required for all our events, hikes and workshops. We do this to ensure we don’t exceed our capacity for indoor events or the maximum limits for group sizes on High Park’s ecologically sensitive trails. Please register on our website before coming to High Park.

We cannot guarantee availability of walk-in spots. If an event is at capacity, please put yourself on our waitlist. We will notify waitlisted participants if we open up new spots or sessions for our events. Please contact us if you have any questions.

NOTE: We will not be foraging in High Park. Foraging is not permitted in city, provincial or national parks. Many nature reserves, conservation areas and forests also do not allow foraging. Be sure to research foraging and harvesting laws in the different places you visit. When legally engaging in foraging, we encourage you to not overharvest, take only what you need and also give back to nature.

Edible & Medicinal Plants of Ontario – Identification & Use with Stephan Lukacic in Toronto’s High Park

Take an introductory peek into nature’s pantry and pharmacy with popular outdoor educator and avid forager Stephan Lukacic.

This fascinating workshop is focused on plant anatomy and identification skills, and the sustainable harvest of common wild plants for food and medicine.

Exploring wild plant ecology, traditional uses, and the modern science behind it all, this comprehensive class will not only teach you how to identify wild plants safely and accurately, but Steve will share some of his favorite ways of using them, including delicious recipes and tried-and-true home remedies.

The list of plants covered in this workshop includes native, naturalized, and invasive species that have both culinary and healing properties, many of which can be found right in your own backyard. You will receive an 8-page handout covering all the basics of plant identification and ethical foraging, and read and discuss its contents thoroughly. Then you’ll do a deep dive right onto the trails in High Park — putting the knowledge you’ve acquired directly into practice by observing and identifying wild plants the group encounters in their natural habitat.

Come learn everything you ever wanted to know about wild plants and a whole lot more… There’s always time for questions and conversation, cool people and a bunch of laughs!

Note: You will not be foraging for wild plants to take home. This workshop focuses on teaching you how to find and identify wild edible and medicinal plants.

We continue to recommend using the TTC or biking as the best way to get to High Park and the Nature Centre. The Nature Centre is situated just a 5-minute walk from the High Park Subway Station.
